A double slider window has two operating sashes. Both slide horizontally, so you can open the left side, the right side, or both sides for flexible airflow. Both operating sashes can be lifted out for easier cleaning from inside the home.
A sliding window needs a good fit and effective weatherstripping to limit drafts. We check the opening and installation requirements alongside the glass and frame options.

Double Slider Window Replacement in Calgary & Surrounding Areas
Double slider windows open horizontally instead of projecting outward, making them practical near walkways, decks, patios, fences, side yards, and landscaping. Two operating sashes provide flexible ventilation from either side of a wider opening.
If an old sliding window sticks, lets in drafts or has fog between the panes, we can review the opening and discuss a suitable replacement.
Energy Efficiency and Calgary Weather Performance
Frame quality, weatherstripping, the glass package and installation all affect how much heat and air pass through the window. These details are worth comparing alongside the opening style.
For the tightest seal, WinMax often recommends comparing casement windows or awning windows. They close against compression seals, which usually limit air leakage better than a sliding sash.
A double slider remains useful where horizontal operation and exterior clearance matter. Double-pane and triple-pane options let you compare the glass while keeping that opening style.

Double Slider vs Single Slider Windows
Single slider windows have one fixed sash and one moving sash. Only one side opens.
A double slider has two moving sashes, letting you choose which side to open.
For a wide opening, being able to open either side can be convenient. If ventilation from one side is enough, compare a single slider as well.
Double Slider vs Casement and Awning Windows
A slider moves along a track. Casement and awning windows instead press against seals when closed, which usually gives them an advantage in air sealing.
Casement windows open outward from the side, while awning windows open outward from the bottom. Both styles use a compression-style seal, which helps reduce air leakage.
WinMax casement and awning systems use stainless steel operators and compression seals. They are worth comparing if air leakage is your main concern and there is room for an outward-opening sash.
A double slider may be the better fit where the room needs horizontal operation or there is little clearance outside. We can compare the styles against your opening and budget.
Best Places to Use Double Slider Windows
This style suits wider openings where you want to choose the side that opens, rather than always using the same section.
- Bedrooms
- Basements
- Living rooms
- Family rooms
- Rental properties
- Side walls
- Walkways
- Patios and decks
- Wider openings where both sides may need to open
Check the space beside walkways, decks and patios. A window that stays within its frame when opened can avoid an outward-swinging sash in those areas.
Are Triple Pane Double Slider Windows Worth It in Calgary?
Triple-pane double slider windows may improve comfort in colder rooms, basements, bedrooms, larger openings, and north-facing or wind-exposed walls. The additional pane can reduce cold-weather discomfort near the glass.
Winmax can compare double-pane and triple-pane options based on the room, exposure, window size, energy performance, and budget. Low-E glass and argon gas are included with every insulated glass unit; the Low-E coating varies by the selected package.

Double Slider Windows Calgary FAQ
Double slider windows have two operating sashes. Both sashes slide horizontally, so homeowners can open the left side, the right side, or both sides for flexible ventilation.
Yes, particularly in a wider opening or beside a walkway, patio or deck where an outward-opening sash would be awkward. The fit depends on the room and the available space.
Modern double slider windows can be energy efficient with quality vinyl frames, proper glass, strong weatherstripping, and professional installation. However, casement and awning windows usually provide stronger sealing because they use a compression-style seal.
A single slider window has one operating sash and one fixed sash. A double slider window has two operating sashes, which gives homeowners more ventilation control from either side of the opening.
Yes. Double slider windows are often used in basements because they are easy to operate, practical for wider openings, and useful when an outward-opening window is not ideal.
For sealing and energy efficiency, casement windows are usually stronger. For horizontal operation, exterior clearance, and wider ventilation control, double slider windows can be a practical choice.
We often suggest casement or awning windows when tight air sealing is the priority. A double slider is worth considering where horizontal operation or clearance outside takes precedence.
Double slider window cost in Calgary depends on window size, glass package, colour, grille options, opening condition, finishing requirements, and installation complexity. Therefore, a professional quote is the best way to get accurate pricing.
